How to distinguish between moissanite diamonds and diamonds
1. Naked eye observation: moissanite diamond fire color is more “flash” (especially rainbow light), diamond is more “white bright”.
2. Professional testing:
- Thermal conductivity: Both moissanites and diamonds are thermally conductive and cannot be distinguished from each other.
- Electrical conductivity meter: Moissan diamonds conduct electricity, diamonds do not conduct electricity (the most reliable method).
- Magnifying glass: moissanite diamonds may have birefringence (ghosting of faceted edges).
How to take care of moissanite on a daily basis
- Cleaning: ultrasonic cleaner / soft brush + detergent warm water.
- Avoid: violent impact (although hard, it is more brittle than diamond).
